Board & Canvas Preparation

(MDF) Medium-density fibreboard is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood

residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by

applying high temperature and pressure.

1. One coat of primer or undercoat (Apply to seal the surface)

2. One coat of gesso

3. Mix in 50% cream Interior Acrylic House paint and 50% water & apply one coat to tint the surface.

CANVAS

 White Canvas:

1. Mix in 50% cream Interior Acrylic House paint and 50% water apply one coat to tint the surface.

 Non-Sealed Canvas:

1. One coat of primer or undercoat (Apply to seal the surface)

2. Use one top coat of white Interior Acrylic House paint.

3. Mix in 50% cream Interior Acrylic House paint and 50% water & apply one coat to tint the surface.

ALL coats to be applied preferably with a large synthetic brush.

The secret to having a good board surface is so it’s not too  rough, porous or not too  slippery. I like to call it the Goldilocks formula. It needs to be  just right! It can take a bit of experimentation but it’s better for the board to be a little towards the smoother side.
