Join Winslow Art Center and award-winning artist Michele Usibelli for an unforgettable plein air painting adventure in Umbria, Italy, May 2-9, 2019. Winslow Art Center is an expert in organizing the best Italian plein air painting workshops! Martha Jordan, the owner of Winslow Art Center, has been conducting successful painting adventures in Italy for over six years and has established relationships with some of Italy’s best hotels and restaurants.

The Hotel Bramante is a 4-star hotel housed in a former Franciscan monastery (12th century) which has recently been entirely renewed   It is located a few meters from the famous Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Consolazione , at the base of Todi, and is  just 800 meters from the town’s center, easily reached both on foot, via a lovely walk, and with a modern free funicular (300 meters from the hotel).

Each of the elegant, traditionally furnished rooms has an ensuite bathroom with shower, luxury soaps and shampoos, and hairdryer. Each one also has a wet bar (including fridge), a plasma TV/DVD and free wifi.

The flagship of Hotel Bramante is the Restaurant Caravaggio. Chef Aldo Mosca offers a menu that is inspired by the Umbrian heritage, taking ancient local recipes and reworking them by including notes from Puglia and other Italian regions.

He will be very pleased to open the doors of “his kingdom”, the kitchen, to guests by giving fun and delicious cooking classes!

The Hotel Bramante also offers a fully equipped Wellness Center with Jacuzzi, bio sauna, Turkish bath, and relaxation area. On request. Massages and other beauty treatments with expert aestheticians are available on request.

Our group will rendezvous in Rome on Thursday, May 2 and shuttle from there to our location in Umbria.

Workshop Description

Experience the thrill of painting the Italian landscape, with the added benefit of guidance from an instructor. All levels of expertise are welcome. You’ll be part of a close-knit Italian “art colony” as you benefit from demonstrations and lectures, personal and group critiques, and frequent art chats. Participants may paint in oil, acrylic, pastel, and gouache. Demonstrations and instruction will focus on the essentials steps of plein air painting. The class will start with an abbreviated lecture on the fundamentals of sound painting, including a discussion of drawing, value, design, and color. Michele will also do a short demo each morning and afternoon, then you will spend the day painting the natural beauty of Umbria. This region is known for its rolling hills, quaint medieval towns and open, welcoming residents.

We will paint each day from 9:00am-12: 00 pm and in the afternoons from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm, to take advantage of the beautiful, Italian light.

Testimonial from a Travel Workshop Participant

“I feel so fortunate to have attended one of the Winslow Art Center travel workshops in Italy.  Martha is so thoughtful in the way she plans these trips.  Careful attention is placed on the location, food, setting, instructor, and overall agenda.  There is a wonderful balance within the week—with time to enjoy the sites as well as quality painting time.  The instructors are all well qualified, talented, fun, and attentive. There is an overall feeling of comradery, professionalism, and family. Our group definitely formed a special bond that I will never forget.”
