Join award winning pastel artist Steven Hill, along with Winslow Art Center, for an unforgettable plein air painting adventure in Umbria, Italy. Winslow Art Center and director Martha Jordan, have been organizing painting adventures in Italy for over five years.
"Love Steve Hill - he's a great teacher and could not have had more teaching experience, with attention to everyone and constructive, to-the-point advice. I really liked his demos before we painted and that he shared art experiences, working techniques and even his mistakes with us. A nice long critique discussion at the end was given to all students, with constructive advice and praise for what we did well, too."
Our six days and seven nights in Umbria will be at a traditional, hilltop manor farm in the Provence of Terni, near historic Orvieto (mIdway between Florence and Rome). The farm, which has been owned and operated by the same family for three centuries, is comprised of 300 acres of vineyards, olive groves, and pastures. While the owners continue to grow and press olives and grapes and raise sheep, a number of the stone buildings have been tastefully converted to guest accommodations and a dining hall. Views in every direction are stunning, not the least of which is the medieval town of Orvieto with its world famous Duomo Cathedral, dominating the skyline a few kilometers to the north.
There is a large swimming pool on the grounds and horseback riding is available, with horses stabled on the estate. The surrounding countryside offers numerous hiking opportunities to nearby towns, castles, villas and Etruscan ruins. And finally, there is the food. Simonetta, the chef for over 20 years, prepares wonderful traditional Umbrian dishes accompanied by wine, olive oil, honey, and jam produced on the farm.
In addition to the many vistas on the grounds, we also paint at three other beautiful locations:
